Minutes of EMCC Monthly Meeting 11/01/2012
The meeting was called to order at 11:50 AM by President Bob Brittain. Other board members present were Diane Shoudt, Secretary, Bill Herman, Treasurer, members at large Wayne Clay, Barbara Ormand, Kara Schug and administrator Julie Albright.
A short message was given by Bernalillo County Commissioner Wayne Johnson regarding “Increment of One”, a small business summit to be held on November 14th from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm at the Manzano Mesa Multigenerational Center in Northeast Albuquerque. For more information call (505)468-1383 or go to maagonzales@bernco.gov.
New Member presentation was given by Anna Gurule from Back to Health, an acupuncture and massage therapy business. Anna does the acupuncture and her partner Melanie Cotton does massage. They maintain regular office hours and are located across the street from the entrance to the cement plant on South 14. Acupuncture is a treatment for pain, asthma, weight loss, addictions, allergies, etc. Anna also does lifestyle counseling. Melanie trained as a nurse but loves massage therapy and said it works great for arthritis. She uses heated stones and charges $50/hr.
Guest speaker was Rick Percival from GCC Rio Grande Cement plant. 14 years ago GCC had 3 plants in Mexico. The plant in Tijeras was the first plant in the USA and they are currently building a plant in Pueblo, CO. Rick and Jose Madera provided a slideshow presentation. They employ 79 people in the Tijeras plant and most of what they make is used locally. They make cement products for residential building and commercial construction. They also make concrete used for paving and it is competitively priced with asphalt paving. Because concrete is more reflective it is widely used in public works projects and parking lots and requires less lighting.
Bill Herman gave the Treasurers report. Last month we had about $400 in income and $1,328 in expenses, leaving a balance of about $4,000. The actual statement had not arrived by the meeting date.
Suzy Clay talked about Breakfast with Santa to be held at Los Vecinos Community Center on Saturday, December 1st from 8:30 until 11:30am. Volunteers are needed for set up on Friday and to cook and work on the Silent Auction on Saturday. Cooks need to be there at 7am Saturday. Booths are available to members free but you must have a craft project for the kids. Donations are welcome for the silent auction or cash donations. Large Christmas decorations are also needed. The cost to attend is $3.00 for children and $5.00 for adults.
New board members for 2013 were announced: Bob Brittain, Bill Herman, Wayne Clay, Kara Schug, Barbara Ormand, Jose Madera and Sarah Egdell.
Member of the month was drawn and won by LDD Business Solutions.
The Ramada Inn donated door prizes and they were won by members The Mountain View Telegraph and Foot and Ankle Centers.
Kara Schug announced a Crafts show to be held November 17th at Los Vecinos. Tables are free but you must bring an unwrapped Christmas gift.
Meeting adjourned at 1:12pm with Board meeting to follow.
