Minutes of East Mountain Chamber Luncheon Meeting on February 6, 2014
The meeting was called to order at 11:47 am by President Rachel Donovan. Officers and directors present were Rachel Donovan, Kara Schug, Bill Herman, Jose Madera, Bob Brittain, Suzy Clay, and Julie Albright, Administrator.
The New Member presentation was given by Regina Marnett with Bluewater Ventures LLC. Many know Regina as a real estate agent from ReMax Pros in Cedar Crest. Now she and her husband, Jim has started their own business, Bluewater Ventures, LLC. They work towards improving neighborhoods and providing fresh homes...one by one. They are always looking to buy property and looking for people to partner with. Give Regina a call for more information 730.0842
The Current Member presentation was given by John Helmich with EMIFPA. John informed the Chamber members and guests that the Sandia Ranger District will be continuing with the Hondo prescribed burn program, February 10, 2014 weather permitting. There are 80 acres targeted for the week. Prior to ignition, fire managers consider many factors including: fuel moisture levels, current and projected weather forecasts, fire personnel resources available, and air quality. All these factors need to be in alignment in order to carry out a successful and safe prescribed burn treatment. This project is a continuation of a three year fuels reduction program in on the Sandia Ranger District. Smoke will be visible from I-40, Hwy.14 North, Frost Rd and the surrounding communities of Cedar Crest and Tijeras. The project is located west of Cedar Crest.
Our scheduled guest speaker was not able to make it due to inclement weather. Rachel Donovan, Chamber President, spoke on a subject that she is passionate about – Budgeting and Credit. She covered some crucial areas in our finances to consider before we seek out a mortgage.
Bill Herman, Treasurer reported that the Chamber had $7,022 in the bank. In January, we had income of $2,693.00 and expenses of $1,583.30 for a net income of $1,009.70. For the full year of 2013 we had Net Income of $2,582. The combination of positive net income last year and our strong showing in January 2014 put us in a solid financial position for the start of 2014.
Patsy Shirey, a nurse’s assistant from A. Montoya Elementary was honored for all of the work she does in the community, sometimes at a cost out of her own pocket. She has continued the tradition at the school to organize giving trees to help less fortunate families in our community. She coordinates food boxes to go home with all their gifts as well. There is no extra pay for this and all the extra hours she puts in to coordinate and deliver these including after hours and on weekends.
Bob Brittain, past president was also recognized with a gift card for serving the East Mountain Chamber the past two years. His generosity and availability were immeasurable.
Bob Brittain mentioned that BernCo seeks input and feedback on the new Los Vecinos Community Center Master Plan and that public meetings are scheduled for Feb. 10 and 12
The winner of the member drawing of the month was Hollywick Farms.
The meeting was adjourned at 1 pm. Board of Directors meeting to follow.
