May 5 + 6 from 10 am-6 pm
Springtime in New Mexico brings wind and sunny skies, creating perfect conditions for the free 17th Annual Kite Festival on Saturday and Sunday, May 5 & 6, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Wildlife West Nature Park in Edgewood.
Join the fun as kites fill the skies with colorful shapes of all sizes throughout the weekend. Visitors can bring their own kite, buy one at the Festival, or watch professional stunt kite fliers maneuver kites expertly in the wind. Visitors can participate in kite flying contests or fly their own kites for fun on large grass fields. Kites will be available for sale.
Members of the American Kiter's Association will bring custom made, one-of-a-kind kites that are big and exciting to watch. The Festival also features sustainable living displays, solar oven demonstrations and water harvesting tours. There will be a raptor demonstration at 2 p.m. each day weather permitting and come play disc golf on the field. Food and drinks will be available from vendors.
Admission to the Festival is FREE. Visitors are then invited to go into Wildlife West Nature Park and Zoo to get close to the 20 species of native New Mexico wildlife including 4 adorable tree climbing grey foxes. Get eye-to-eye with 2 curious young cougars, howl with the coyotes, and see the largest black bear in New Mexico, and other native wildlife and raptors. Admission to the Wildlife West Zoo is $9 for adults, $7 for seniors, $5 for students and children 4 and younger are free.
