    6/17 Letter from the President

Dear East Mountain Chamber Members and Friends,

After a couple of unexpected bouts of wintry weather, Spring has finally arrived, and with it the renewal of colorful flowers, budding trees and lifted spirits. In keeping with the season, there are some great opportunities to get out there and network with the community while having a great time.

Wildlife West will be hosting a Chamber Mixer this coming Saturday evening on June 3rd between 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. in their Bean Barn so bring your business cards to network. Wildlife West is inviting everyone to see their Chuckwagon Supper Show so we can all be referrals for Wildlife West. This event is not open to the general public, just members of local Chambers of Commerce. There is a limit of 2-3 attendees per business.  It is a business mixer not intended for children. Please note that an RSVP is required so that they can have enough food for all! Please contact Gail ASAP at 281-1999. Let's show our support and appreciation while enjoying a free meal and entertainment by the Watermelon Mountain Jug Band this coming Saturday night!

As well, Walkin' N Circles Ranch will be presenting their annual Jamboree on Saturday, June 10th from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. This is a fundraiser to benefit horse rescue missions throughout the area.  There will be a silent auction, vendors, displays, and other fun family festivities for the entire family, so come on out!

Our monthly Luncheon Meeting will be held at Legacy Church in Edgewood on Thursday, June 1, 2017, with great food to be provided by Advanced Member Shorty's Bar Be Cue, located in Moriarty.

As an added treat, Lions Club will be celebrating their 100th anniversary the following week, and will be providing mini-cupcakes to our group for dessert! Please help us congratulate the Lions, including our very own Gerry and Bob Jones.

In addition to the great food and sweet dessert treat, there will be special goodies for each and every Member present from Advanced Member Tiny Bubbles Lovable Soaps, presented by Alexandra Pinto Paniagua -- so be there!

We have door prizes to give away too, so remember to drop your business card in the pail when you register at the door.

The door prizes are a chocolate truffle filled East Mountain Chamber mug and a fresh bamboo body wash with its bath poof from Tiny Bubbles Lovable Soaps.

As of May 1, 2017, all East Mountain Chamber Members have a 10% Discount in purchases from www.TinyBubblesLovableSoaps.com - through the web or in person.  You just have to use Discount Code EMCC10 at checkout.

    ...and REMEMBER:

Dress in Western Garb to celebrate Cowboy Days in the East Mountains. Our featured Speaker this month will be our very own Barbara Ormond of SASS, a/k/a Cat Ballou, and her husband Tex. They will be providing lots of info about their upcoming event, End of Trail, which brings so many visitors (and their business) to our Communities each year! Their presentation will be one you sure don't want to miss!

Additionally, a few members on the Social Media Committee Natalie Fallbach of Academy Mortgage and Alexandra Pinto Paniagua of Tiny Bubbles Lovable Soaps, LLC. will be reaching out to the East Mountain Chamber Membership to offer everyone an opportunity to get a FREE Two Minute Spotlight Video to promote their business and an offer to publicize events on Facebook and "Meetup" Group for free.  More details to come in another email.

Looking forward into the Fall, we have begun to get the word out and solidify some details for our anticipated Taste of the East Mountains, to be held on Saturday, October 21st, from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. This will be a celebration showcasing our local restaurants, who will be offering samples of their food, and will be open to the general public for a nominal fee. Other Chamber Members will be on hand along with other local businesses to promote their products and services, and live music will be performed.

We are looking for sponsors who will get honorable mentions on our website, newsletters, our social media accounts, etc. from now until the event is held.  We hope you will consider participating. Only Chamber Members will be offered an opportunity to set up a table at no charge, so reserve yours soon! The event will be hosted by the Legacy Church, Edgewood.

You will be hearing our Executive Director Gail Rossi's Public Service Announcement broadcast daily on in-kind Member KXNM radio, X88.7 FM, with monthly "teasers" offering more and more info as the date draws near! We will be promoting this event in a big way, so save the date, and plan on making your presence known and having fun, eating great food, networking, and listening to live music. There will be bouncy houses for the little ones so bring the family and be sure invite your friends!

Don't forget: This is YOUR Chamber, and we are here to support you -- our local businesses and residents. Please participate, and let your voice be heard! There are so many benefits to being a Member of the East Mountain Chamber of Commerce, so please, be sure to utilize them to the full extent! Questions, suggestions and constructive feedback are always welcome!

    Dear Members and Friends,

Spring has finally arrived in the beautiful East Mountains, and the East Mountain Chamber of Commerce is in full bloom, planning great things for our Members and Friends of the community.

    SAVE THE DATE!

The East Mountain Chamber of Commerce will present the first ever Taste of the East Mountains on Saturday, Oct. 21, 2017 between 10 a.m.-4 p.m.  It will be a public event held at Legacy Church in Edgewood.  We will be inviting the general public to come taste and vote for the best tasting food.  Member Food Vendors can participate for free, and other Members will have the option of setting up a table to display their products or services for free.  This is your chance to get out, have some fun, meet your neighbors and fellow business owners, strengthen your business presence, and sample some of the greatest food available. There will be a bake-off as well, open to the general public, so if you have a secret dessert recipe, this will be the time to show it off!

Besides using regular word of mouth networking and media ads, we will be using the Internet and Social Media to promote the event.  Come to our First Thursday Luncheon to find out how you can promote your Business at Taste of the East Mountains and anywhere using an Online Presence and/or Social Media!

Technology Expert Nancy Carpenter of Automated Systems, Inc. and Social Media Expert Bobbi Chavez of Social B will be introducing a series of hands-on tutorials and classes to show you how to make the most of the Internet and Social Media. Whether you're new to the world of technology or a super-techie, there is much to learn in order to have a significant working online presence with so much competition out there.

We look forward to showing you how to utilize Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Linked in, and our East Mountain Chamber of Commerce website to your greatest advantage! We will be teaching why you need an online presence, how to know with certainty if your online presence is “working” or not, and how to intelligently know where your online presence is “broken” so you don’t waste time and money doing the wrong things to fix it.

There will be more information available at the First Thursday Luncheon Meeting on 4/06/17 at Los Vecinos Community Center.  Please join us!  Food will be provided by valued member The Greenside Cafe.  Remember to RSVP at info@EastMountainChamber.com and tell Gail if you have any special food needs.

Until Thursday, have a wonderful week, get out and enjoy the early spring here in the East Mountains!

    Sincerely,

    Nancy Carpenter, President

    Letter from the President

    Dear Friends and Members,

As we await the coming of Spring, we look forward to our March First Thursday Monthly Lunch Meeting on 3/2/17. This meeting will be held at the beautiful Edgewood Campus of The Legacy Church, and will begin at 11:30 a.m.  Food will be provided by the East Mountain Grill.  RSVP by email to info@eastmountainchamber.com or by phone to 505-281-1999 to reserve your seat. Admission is $10 per person at the door, which includes your lunch.

Please bring a guest or two, and a supply of business cards for networking. As well, we are always happy to collect brochures or other materials to include in our New Member Packets and Relocation Packets to help promote your business.  We are nearly finished with the Packets, and look forward to spreading the word to see that our Member Businesses are recognized throughout the East Mountain Communities. We want to thank Members Jan McNelis of The UPS Store for putting them together this year and One Stop Office for doing so last year.

Our New Member Speaker will be Richard Patnaud, MA, LPCC, of Eastern Slope Counseling and Consulting.  We are also proud to present Special Guest Speaker Ted Reiff of the Reuse People, who will be discussing the benefits of building materials salvage, historic preservation and adaptive reuse though the process known as deconstruction.

Additionally, we would like to commend our valued Member MAGS Indoor Shooting Range for their generous donation to the Moriarty Police Department. The owner of MAGS, David Tixier, along with his wife, Marcy, honored the Department at MAGS by donating $2,000 worth of ammunition on Friday, 2/17/17. Police Chief Bobby Garcia graciously accepted the donation.  He spoke of how Moriarty police officers are members of MAGS, and how they are able to maintain their expertise in shooting handguns by training and practicing their skills at MAGS. Present at the ceremony, in addition to the Tixiers and Chief Garcia, were employees Mike Nelson, Manager, and "Chief" Mike Cruz, Assistant Manager, along with Rick Kennedy, who is the gunsmith at MAGS.

    Mags Donation to Moriarty Police

Remember to volunteer a bit of time to be involved in a Committee or two, such as Membership, Social Media, and Events. This is a way to put our heads together, make your suggestions known, and create the perfect environment to promote the great things that are happening here thanks to our community residents and businesses.

    ANNOUNCEMENT!!!  Please read below.

We don't want anyone to be left out so tell everyone.

The East Mountain Chamber of Commerce is excited to announce a series of educational in person and online workshops coming your way the next few months. According to a recent article in Entrepreneur Magazine, the internet is the first place consumers of all ages go to find information about businesses. Many people search the internet and social media sites to find or research products and services before they order online or physically go to a store front. Your business does not exist to millions of potential clients if you do not have an online presence.

We will be teaching Members why they need an online presence, how to know with certainty if your website is "working" or not, and how to intelligently know where your website is "broken" so you don't waste time and money doing the wrong things to fix it. We will also be teaching Members how to use Social Media to communicatecollaborategenerate leads, grow their brand, and increase their sales.  This training alone is worth your membership fees.

We will be putting training videos and materials in a private forum on our East Mountain Chamber website for your convenience to review as many times as you like so please respond to this email to make sure you have an East Mountain Chamber website account to log into.  Usually the username log in is the email you registered with.  If you want training for multiple employees from your business, please respond to this email with each employee's email and name.

After we get our membership educated, we will be holding Online Scavenger Hunts to get members in our community and beyond to learn about our member products and services so don't miss out on this opportunity to learn how to use technology to do more with less.  We want all our member businesses to succeed.

Technology has changed the way many of us do business and that trend is only going to increase over the next few years. More details to come. Stay involved, stay connected, and we look forward to seeing you all soon!

    Sincerely,

    Letter from the President

    Dear Friends and Members,

As another year draws to a close, we are excited to welcome 2017 with bright visions for a fabulous new year. In addition to introducing our new Board Members, we will be varying the venue for our monthly luncheon meetings once per quarter to add convenience for our Members in all the Communities throughout the East Mountains which includes Moriarty, Edgewood, and Tijeras. Thank you MAGS Indoor Shooting Range and Legacy Church Edgewood who volunteered to open their doors to our Membership for this purpose.

We are planning some great networking events throughout the coming year, and will keep you up to date as plans solidify, including some joint efforts with the Edgewood Chamber of Commerce. We have been maintaining a dialogue with the Edgewood Chamber of Commerce in order to facilitate such events. We look forward to announcing further details for a joint event in February focused on Jobs.  There will be staffing experts on hand to discuss many great options to get help and offer employment to those in our Communities and surrounding areas.  We also have a high school mentorship program to help our business members and to grow the youth in our communities.

As always, we are here to serve you, our Members, and we always welcome your suggestions, feedback, thoughts and participation! We are listening! We strongly encourage you to invest an hour per month to serve on at least one Committee in the name of teamwork, to help us help YOU and your business! This is your Chamber, and with the same vision and goals in mind, we can accomplish grand things going forward.

We have the following committees that need to be filled.  Please respond to this email or call at 281-1999 if you would like to join any of the following committees to help run and influence your Chamber.  We will then email everyone who is on the committees along with everyone’s contact information so you can start meeting.

    1.    The Events Committee focuses on brainstorming and implementing events that will benefit member businesses and/or local residents.

    2.    The Membership Committee focuses on inviting local businesses to chamber meetings/events and then orienting them after they join.

    3.    The Social Media Committee focuses on overseeing all social media including the website to make sure all information is accurate and up to date including but not limited to current by-laws, current events, correct and updated membership information and any other information pertaining to the website, Facebook, Twitter, etc.

    5.    The Edgewood Committee focuses on Edgewood interests and events.  They will help set up/clean up the meeting room and any events in Edgewood.

    6.    The Moriarty Committee focuses on Moriarty interests and events.  They will help set up/clean up the meeting room and any events in Moriarty.

Please enjoy the pics we took just before Christmas, when we presented the wonderful staff of Los Vecinos Community Center with a holiday gift basket of goodies, beautifully put together for us by member business Triangle Grocery in Cedar Crest. These wonderful young men and women are always anxious to help with a smile, and they contribute so much to our luncheon meetings and other Community events.

For our luncheon tomorrow on Thursday, 1/05/17, member businesses Jim Stundon of Hug a Horse and Walkin' n' Circles Ranch and Genevieve Barrett of Talking Talons will be speaking about their organizations and how they benefit our communities.  Luncheon of pizza and salad will be provided by another one of our members Trail Rider Pizza.  Please call us at 281-1999 if we need to make special food arrangements for you.
