    Hello Members!


    I'm Nancy Carpenter and I'm excited to be your 2016 East Mountain Chamber President!


    I would like to bring everyone up to date on the following items:


    1.  At the 10/01/15 meeting, members voted to continue the East Mountain Chamber organization to make sure there is a Chamber presence in the East Mountain area. 


    The New 2016 East Mountain Chamber of Commerce Board Members are:

    • President - Nancy Carpenter - Automated Systems, Inc.
    • Vice President - Angie Gallegos - Water Works Drilling Resources
    • Treasurer - Bob Jones - Sandia Mountain Lions Club
    • Secretary - Tamne Robinson - One Stop Shop
    • Member at Large - Bert Almy - Almy & Associates
    • Member at Large - Bob Brittan - Creative Award Concepts

    2.  Due to lack of volunteers, our annual Breakfast with Santa event, that helped offset our membership dues, has been donated to the Mountainside United Methodist Church in Cedar Crest.


    3.  Instead we have raised our membership dues to stay viable.

    • Regular Membership Dues = $150
    • Advanced Membership Dues = $200
    • Corporate 500 Membership Dues = $500
    • Corporate 1000 Membership Dues = $1000

    4.  The 2016 Board Members are planning the following future events:

    • East Mountain Winter Celebration Networking Event on Saturday, January 23, 2016 from 5 pm - 7 pm @ Los Vecinos Community Center
    • Taste of the East Mountains Fundraiser in 2016 (To Be Determined)
    • Contact Food Vendors to provide tastings
    • Attendees taste and vote on best tasting food
    • Attendees pay fee to taste and vote
    • All Chamber Members have the option to set up a table to display their products

    Board Meeting Minutes

    11/13/2015

    One Stop Office

     

    Meeting started late due to fatality on freeway and traffic being backed up.

    Angie emailed said she was sick and wouldn’t attend.

    Bob Jones called said he couldn’t get through due to the traffic.

     

    Bert Alma, Tamne Robinson, Nancy Carpenter, and Julie Albright were in attendance.

    Meeting started approximately 12:15

     

    Nancy began with addressing her letter to go out to the members concerning new board and other upcoming information that chamber is addressing to members

     

    Briefly addressed big event in spring, ideas to bring in new members, types of events that need to be held, etc.  These things were tabled until the January event is complete.

     

    It was decided by chamber members present that the Networking event would be catered and paid for by Bert Almy.  It would be held at Los Vecinos on January 23rd from 5-7pm. 

     

    The amount of food that we would need to be provided and the cost to mail out a postcard to invite all East Mountain Businesses will be on hold until Bert Almy was able to get a mailing list of all east mountain businesses in Tijeras, Cedar Crest, Sandia Park,  Edgewood and Moriarty.  Once we have that list we will have an exact cost to mail out invites and approximate food amount to be provided so that we can obtain a quote from local member vendors to provide food for the event.

     

    We briefly discussed doing a survey to each chamber member.  Nancy was going to get ahold of Bob Jones who made the offer at last Chamber meeting to put a survey together and follow up with him.

    When survey is finished chamber will go over and see if we need to add change or delete anything on it.

    Some of the topics Chamber would like to know is:

                    Who do we contact from the businesses that can make decisions about helping with events. 

                    How do they want to be contacted? Email, phone or letter, or personal contact

                    What days would be better for them to be able to attend meetings/or events?

                    Etc.

    Olivia Counts from One Stop Office will make face to face contact with each business member to complete survey.

     

    Board meeting ended with members in agreement to have next meeting at:

    One Stop Office on Thursday December 10 (when Bert will be in town) at 11:30.

    GAAR needs your help!!!  GAAR is holding a friendly challenge for the “Make a Difference Day”:  The Realtors vs the Affiliates.

     

    The team that has the most people show up win bragging rights for the next year. Last year the Affiliate team won.

     

    National Make a Difference day is October 24th. We are meeting at Road Runner Food Bank from 8am-11am. It is a family friendly day… children over 8 years old and up. Then we work from about 8:30am to 11:00am to help get food sorted, bagged, packaged, and whatever else they need. Really everyone wins. It is a whole lot of fun because we all work together to benefit those that are served by RRFB. Please select a team, sign up, and come join the fun.

    This month we would like to ask a few questions that will help the chamber board make plans for the future of the chamber.  Several chambers have closed in recent months.  Los Lunas and Moriarty are two of them.  Our East Mountain Chamber has reached a point where we are not sure we can continue.  Elections are coming up and the current board will not be renewing their positions.  We all feel we would like to support the chamber and a new set of board members however, we will not be running for the existing positions. 

     

    We would like to find out what your thoughts are for the following ideas.  Please shoot an email to Julie with your preference for 1 of the following:

     

    1. Combine the East Mountain Chamber with another Chamber to help with increased participation.


    2. Continue with the existing chamber – and please let us know which board or other volunteer position you are willing to accept.  Remember, we will need an entirely new board, President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary.  A vote to continue will only be accepted if you agree to hold a position on the board.


    3. Disband the chamber until such time as the local businesses feel that they would benefit from a chamber and volunteer to set up, organize and run it.


    Technology has changed the way consumers buy, and businesses have changed the way they do business because of that.  We have to accept those changes and modify how we as a chamber do business.
